Our Story

Our story - Just Eat Local, Downtown Boise's finest restaurants: Bittercreek Alehouse, Woodland Brewing, Red Feather Lounge, and Diablo & Sons. On the corner of 8th and Idaho streets.

In 1996, we opened Bittercreek Alehouse on 8th Street in downtown Boise.  The original idea was good beer and good food and over time it turned into food we could trace, beer we believed in, and a place where the distance between the farm and the plate was as short as we could make it.

Nearly thirty years later, that idea has grown into Just Eat Local, a family of three downtown restaurants: Bittercreek Alehouse, Red Feather Lounge, and Diablo & Sons Saloon. Bittercreek is also home to a small brewery where we develop new beers that feed into Woodland Empire, our local brewery rooted in Idaho-grown ingredients and place-based storytelling.

But what’s grown most isn’t the business, it’s the relationships. With the farmers and ranchers who trust us with what they grow. With the bakers, brewers, and makers who build alongside us. With the many people who’ve worked these kitchens and dining rooms over three decades. And with the guests who keep coming back. Those relationships are the whole point.

What We Believe

We believe the health of our city is tied to the health of the land and communities that grow our food products.    We try to source locally because every dollar we spend with an Idaho farmer or maker is an investment in that farmer, their family, the soil, our water, and the working landscape our city depends on. We follow the seasons because that’s what honest food looks like. We tell the stories of the people who do the work because they deserve to be known.

We’re not perfect at any of this. Local sourcing is harder and more expensive than the alternative. The supply chain breaks. The seasons don’t always cooperate. There are some items that you expect us to have all year, and we agree.  But we keep learning, and we try to do right by the people who produce our food and for those of you who count on us to make local sourcing a priority.  .

What Guides Our Work

People

Our restaurants are built around the belief that hospitality is an act of inclusion. Every guest, every worker, every neighbor is welcome. We call it Inspired Hospitality; hospitality rooted in place, grounded in story, and built on the understanding that people, all people, are what matter.

Place

We prioritize Idaho farms, producers, and makers; not because it looks good on a menu, but because we think it’s the right thing to do. Local purchasing keeps dollars circulating in our community, keeps farmers farming, and keeps the food system that sustains this city strong, or at least growing stronger.

Progress

We work to reduce waste, conserve energy, and refine how we operate; not just to shrink our footprint but to build resilience. Local sourcing, seasonal menus, regenerative partnerships – these are investments in a food system that we hope grows a little stronger each year.

Meet The Team

The people behind Just Eat Local bring our purpose to life every day.

Our Alumni

We’re deeply grateful for everyone who has helped shape our kitchens and dining rooms over the years. Your time, talent, creativity, and care have influenced who we are today.

Many of you have gone on to do incredible work beyond your time with us, and your impact can be felt throughout our community. If we’ve made any difference at all, it’s because of the effort, heart, and commitment you brought to this place during your time with us, and the work you continue to do in our community.

Thank you.

The Yearbook

We are proud of everyone who has helped shape our kitchens, bars, breweries, and dining rooms over the years. Their talent and creativity influenced who we are today and their collective influence can be felt in countless ways around our community, our greatest hope is that some of that influence was guided by their connection to downtown Boise.
